Have a WD500 my book external hard drive that works fine with SV elite but when plugged into 8000HD it will show recordings list but when push play it jumps back to menu. Figured since both boxes are SV it would be compatible with each other but will not work.

bought an 8GB kingston 8GB thumb drive formated to fat32 and it is not even recognized
tried an older 1GB Sandisk cruzer thumb drive and it works fine but too small for recording

can anyone tell me what brand of thumb drive will work and how many GB can be used?

Are you saying the recordings were made with the 360,& they won't play on the 8000???Not sure I understand.

Yes that's exactly what I am saying

Likely (transport stream) T.S. extension, but is he trying to playback a 720 or 1080 recording on a SD receiver.
Edit: reread the initial post, my mistake. He has recorded off the sd and will not play on the HD reciever.
After a little research, I found that they both record in the same file format.

Thanks for your input guys... looks like the external hdd is able to record fine now using 8000 just won't playback 360 recordings.
