Hello gang, a friend gave me this receiver to setup initially he said it was a DM500, when I received it notice the name, did some Google and found info of this receiver being exactly the same DM500 same hardware same everything and a quote saying that its an ilegal copy, I haven't done anything to it not even plug to the wall I really prefer your opinion to set it up for a room, as a receiver. Thanks in advance TP

Give it a try, no harm in trying. What name is on the box? Most DM500 these days are clones, it has been years since DM made any of these boxes. You just might come to like this little box, it has features that most other STBs don't have.

As far as I remember the only thing to avoid on clone DM500's were the Gemini images, because they contained a clone kill. But that is going back years ago it may have changed since then. I used to use the PLI images and never had a problem and it was a nice looking GUI.

A: Nothing, they are the exact same but just has the outer shell black.
Q: Can I install the current software I am using and will it work?
A: Yes. The Dreambox software will work in the exact same way.

OK first question I found answer on the web, the Black Box 500 is the exact same DM500 a perfect copy the only difference is the external case, but all the hardware is the same. TP

Turned on and it has Openpli installed, do I have to install an app or something? Want to try IKS. TP
Owner just told me is going to be used for SAT 77.2 DN MX. On the receiver says Black Box 500.
