View Full Version : T5 Will Not Connect

I've got a T5 that won't re-connect to the internet.

Blew an ethernet switch today, bought a new one and can't get the box to connect since.

I have the same run of cable from the switch to my TV for Netflix and it works. I tried that cable to the T5 and it wouldn't work either. Rebooted modem and the T5 countless times and nothing. Connected box directly to satellite internet modem and it still won't connect.

Sub is up and working. Neighbor punched in user and password in his box and code worked.
Brought the box to neighbors and it worked right away. Brought it home and tried it again and nothing.

Internet works through the switch on the computer, netflix works on the tv. I left the box on a channel I know works for a couple of hours and nothing.

Any suggestions?

Are you getting an ip in network settings?

Are you getting an ip in network settings?

Yes.

But if I go into Server Set Up and hit Ok to connect, it will not connect to server for either provider.

Have you tried using another server slot?
have you tried make2dream?

Yes

No

The thing worked before the switch blew. Worked at my neighbors!?

If you think the slot would make a difference I'll try it.

I take it make2dream is a new file? I haven't had to look at the file section as the box had been running fine.

network is set to dhcp? If the rcvr connect at your friends and not at your place it HAS to be with the switch.Any way to bypass the switch and connect directly to modem/router?

Just an easy way to input server info

Initially I was trying the T5 directly to the modem and it wouldn't work. I got a new switch later on in the day and hooked it up with the same results. Everything else I have connected to the switch works except the T5.

Factory reset, enter all your info as new, hopefully you have not blown the network card in the receiver when you lost your switch. You can replace your network cable from new switch to receiver as well. Do you have another fta receiver to test in it's place?. Good luck.

Yes. Tested it at the neighbors and it connected in 5 seconds and worked perfectly.

And to an earlier question I am using DHCP.

Well you have through process of elimination found it to be network related and only at your place and does not seem to be modem or router related. Kinda leaves the network cables to question I would think.

It took me this long to get all the hardware checked out.

Here's the short of it: Using satellite internet that is working fairly well. Speeds aren't great but not losing connectivity.

Everything worked fine until an ethernet switch blew. Since then I can't get everything to work.

I initially bought a cheap switch and it wouldn't work. I bought a Netgear FS105NA ProSafe 5-Port Fast Ethernet Desktop Switch going to the modem. From the switch I have a computer, receiver and a smart tv for netflix.

My problem is all will not work. I either get tv no computer and netflix or computer works no receiver and I get netflix or no netflix. Its a flip of the coin as to what will work.

I've replaced all ethernet cables including two fifty foot runs to the tv and receiver.

I'm now stumped.

[Try using fixed (static), manual IP addressing for every device on your network. See if you can get all your hardware connected that way. I think you have to set each one in a range from 0 to 50 such as 192.168.1.1 next would be 192.168.1.2 and so on.I noticed you do not state that there is a router in the mix, you may need one to mediate between the modem and the switch in order to use dhcp.

There is no router.

The set up goes modem then switch. Computer, smart tv and receiver are in the switch.

I'm beginning to think like you in that a router may be necessary.

The strange thing is that this set up used to work perfectly but now having tried two different switches I'm having no luck.

I'll get a router and report back.

maybe the switch that blew was actually wired router and handled the handing out of ip addresses
