Upon surfing the channel list, you come to a channel that doesn't come in. (sd channels). you go to dish/ant. settings and change the lnb type from dp to single, then save and exit, and then the channel comes in.
What might be the cause for this?

settings were wrong in the first place?

In the past, all the channels came in with all lnbs set to dp as they have been since the receiver was bought new...never ever changed settings nor had to. just in the recent months has this had to be done. Even on the same tp, one channel will use "single" and another "dp"

And too, back to 2005, none of my other receivers (seven of them) had to be changed...just set, scan, and watch.

The lnb setting should never change
Lnb could be failing ,switch too.

I agree. should never have to change settings.
Just earlier this year i would do my scans and all channels were ok, given the server was ok. this is the case even after doing a factory and sysclean.

The lnb settings should be what you are actually using. If you are using DP of DPP the lnb type should be OCS-DP. If you are using Legacy lnbs the lnb type should be Standard of Legacy twin or quad of whatever you are actually using. The channel you are watching has nothing to do with lnb settings.

How many LNB's are you running on the one receiver, and what type/brand??

My dish is the 1000.2 (all dpro as you already know) which has never had a problem since it was bought new.

using a power inserter? or dp44?

Yes are you using a DC power inserter?

If not then this sounds like the receivers DC power to the LNB is dropping off, most FTA receivers can't power the tripple headed D1000 for very long without some sort of long term power supply damage.

Or if you are using the DPP 44 power supply then maybe something has changed in the coax, (water got in) the coax connectors, (water got in) or something else has happened to drop the DC voltage to the DP 1000 LNB.

The DP 1000 LNB needs at least 18 volts DC at 650 mA to run right.

Why do you have to use a DC power inverter?

Sorry ,Why are you using a DC power inserter? t5 output 500mA ,lnb needs 650 mA

I believe the answer has just about surfaced...as stated before, prob never existed on my sv8000. the only change is that i recently had my power supply repaired/upgraded by the "guy on ebay".
Thanx for the replies
