Got receiver, no remote (ROC multisat on order) cant scan because I dont have remote so what can I control with serial port? I have PC with serial connector next to it. any tips on using serial port? I'll have Dish SAT-1000 triple LNB, but currently have stock 18cm Directv SD dish aimed right now from old DirecTV account.

I don't think the sv's have any provision for remote via serial control. Now, you could hook up an IR LED to the PC serial port and have it send remote signals that way. Research the linux remote project (not just for linux BTW) at lirc.org there is a sender that uses one of the serial control lines for remote control. I played with a similar project to send remote signals using the TX line of remote that sort of works too--down in advanced section here. All hinges in your having a file with the remote control commands for the box though, so see if your box has a lirc file under supported remotes section.

You could also buy a programmable remote--the jp1 "hifi-remote" site has info on that type of remote.

SInce some info is availible on modifying sv code, you could program the box to respond to a diff remote as well--that might be some work though. For that matter, since some info is known about the serial port so that box can do IKS, one could support serial command set that does more than just IKS--also a bit of work though. http://www.satfix.net/showthread.php?140385-Machine-code-mods-to-sv4k-box

Of course if all you need to is load a scan from someone else with the same box--that is straight forward.

Got remote, works fine. Scanned a few, nada. Cant get Q to rise above 0 on any sat. although signal is 96 on 101? Dish used is pre-aimed DirecTV std def 18cm round, 1 lnb, 2 port. Any setting I should be made aware of?

Re-aim dish to sats 110 and or 119.
