View Full Version : open box clones
How do you know if it's an original or an clone open box? Which open boxes have been cloned and of the cloned units which have clone kill bins?
Looking at getting one but need to make sure it's real.

I have a Skybox F6 which is a clone of the Openbox X5 and it works just fine with the X5 software. There are no clone kill bins for Openbox that I know of. Often a clone is better than the original and made in the same factory in China. Not sure if any other Openbox/Skybox models are cloned.

Yes there is clone kill bins for the X5, I have two that's close to dead, they power on and all looks good until you press a button on
the remote then you get this,
Copyright Check.
S/W Authentication Failed because the Security chip is Invalid or Empty.
There is a thread on this started by me.
Before you ask, yes I tried the loader & cable, the rs232 port is dead.

Guess I was lucky with that Skybox F6. It's run any number of X5 bins with no problem. At least the model name is not cloned since Openbox never released that name. My guess it comes from the same factory. Not to say clone kills aren't a real danger. Disabling the RS232 port is a killer!

I am working on a way to bypass the security chip to fix the rs232 port, if I get it to work I will post a how to fix.

All Openboxes have 8PSK but not the 8PSK Turbo FEC, the HD channels that you can see with openboxes are the HD Channels on Sats like 125, 50, and some other true FTA Sats.................................AZ
