Hey,
I'm trying to figure out what size this Von Weise actuator is

Please have a look at the pics attached

Measuring from the boot to the end out the outer tube it is 33" Does that make this a 24" actuator?

Thanks Gold

I tried to post this earlier & lost connection. If this is a double please delete the one without the photos (;

That's the exact jack that's moving my bud Gold, it's a 24".

Thanks Much my friend!!!
That's what I thought, but I wanted to double check. I am going to use that on my 7.5' (Which I hope to get the pole dug up & re-cemented in it's new location today).

I need to purchase a larger heavy duty one for the 10'. Skyvision sells good ones. but they are pricey. Anyone know anywhere in US/Canada that sells heavy duty actuators?

I want to go at least 36" possibly larger.

Shipping from Canada can be quite expensive, I would suggest you buy local.

Well my C band pole is dug up. I am taking a break from breaking off the cement (I need to eat something so here I am). Ham sandwich with sautéed onions fried in sausage grease sounds good.

My new hole is dug, & I dug out my Ku pole...Wow what a day so far. If I can get the cement broke off the bud pole I will get it in it's new location today. A 220' run.

I actually got both my bud holes dug, but I don't have the right size pipe for the new one. It takes 4" schedule 40. I only have 3" schedule 40.

I now only have my old DN500 up... No more RTV for a little while

Eh Gold, how about some pictures. I have a 4" schedule 40 for my 6' but I only went with 3" schedule 40 for my 10'- havent had a problem.

I'll take some photos tomorrow if it's not raining Zeus. I'm wiped out today. I think I'll jump in the shower & put on a Monk DVD & veg tonight. It will probably be a couple weeks before I get my BUD working. I'll set it on the pole next weekend. If I have my wire ran then that will be great.

Well my 3" pole for the 7.5' is in. I only had it dug down 30" with the auger & hit rock so I pulled it out & cleaned out the hole. I tried to break through the rock but it was too solid. I poured a 3'x3'x4" cap since I could only go down 30".

The bracket for the 10' dish takes the 4" pipe, so I guess that's what I need to use. I did get that hole 36", but I think I am going to pour the same cap to make it look nice.

Here are some photos

This first one is the attached image. It's the pole for the 7.5' dish

This second is the 10' Solid. Actually it is in three pieces. The dish is in two halves & the Polar mount is in the other...I need to take a photo of that yet. This old building is coming down. The Leanto of the barn will be here :yeaah:

Gold - I heartily recommend getting a rubber dish mover boot somewhere like this - /http://www.skyvision.com/store/mi1000003.html

My first new motor on my 10' dish became rusted like your old one in your picture and the mechanics (ball screw) inside the tube locked up after only about 3 years.

My second new one I put a rubber boot on and the telescoping section still looks new under the boot and it's 5-6 years old now and still works like a champ, it keeps the water out of the extension tube and out of the motor gear box and dish position sensor inside that black box the end.

Well worth the $30 bucks IMO in how much longer mine has worked with no issues and no headaches.

Yeah I generally buy all my C-band hardware and also my BUD subscription from Skyvision, quick shipping and have always tried to help me when I had a question. Looks like their mover prices have gone up since I bought mine. LOL

I didn't have any clue who makes the dish movers for Skyvision so I looked at the decal on the dish mover's gearbox on mine, they are made by xxx.venturemfgco.com if you want to look at what info they have on their site.

I have the Ultra Power 36" mover on my 10' here in Kansas and with that my dish arc more than covers all the U.S. sat's from coast to coast, it goes past AMC6 at 72w and goes past AMC8 at 139w if that gives you any idea of its range.

Thanks my friend for the heads up.
I was looking at Venture...I can find a good Ball screw made by Venture a little cheaper then Skyvision., Actually about $100 cheaper:grr:

I was actually thinking about it & ball screw would be the way to go out here. We get some pretty stiff winds. I think an Acme would prematurely wear the nuts.

My 7.5' Perfect 10 has an 18" & it can go a little past 139 - 58.8. Before I buy the 36" I am going to try the 24" that came with it & see where it goes. I hope to get the pole up this weekend, but the weather may prevent.

Any who my goal is to go at least to Hipsat 30...I live in SW MO & can get it on my 1.2, but it's too great a strain on the motor to go that far. I've only done it a couple times.

I can rebuild the Polar mount easy enough, but a 10' solid is heavy...My wife won't like helping me take that off the pole more then once...And that already happened, when we took it off to get it home...:tape:

Gold, what is on Hipsat30 that has your interest?

I looked at Lyngsat but I didn't see anything on 1c/1d that stood out.

According to the Satbeams site the American footprint reaches all the way west into Colorado but even if my dish arc reaches I still can't see it because of a tall tree on my neighbors that blocks the far east end of my arc.

Alot of interesting and useful channels on Hispasat. I can't speak for Gold but there are many movies and shows in English with foreign subtitles.

I have a chainsaw also and the thought has crossed my mind but we are on good terms and i'd like to keep it that way.

I also thought about drilling a deep hole into the base of the tree and poaring in some tree killer so maybe he would cut it down after it died but i'm a nice guy so I won't. :tehe:

Good luck on it working out so you can get the movies!

I hope to have my 7.5' up & working tomorrow. I actually have a meeting tomorrow night far away, so I will have to leave here early. I'll have the dish up...but I don't know about it working. Really my main goal is to have my other pole cemented in for the 10' tomorrow.

Well I updated a few photos

The first is the Perfect 10 back up on the pole.
The conduit is 2" I wanted to go a little large in case of future dishes
http://www.satfix.net/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=110

I got to reduce this before I hook up my connector on that RG11. The connectors are too much money to waist. Once I get that I'll have FTA again
http://www.satfix.net/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=112

& Lastly here is the pole to the 10' Solid. Same cap. as a matter of fact I just took it off the other & put it on this one.

Not a Dairy Farmer, I am a self employed Machinist. I raise Holstein steers. My neighbor is, also a good friend & we buy all his bulls. I bought 43 so far this year. I hope to get about 20 more. The one that looks like a Guernsey is a Red Holstein heifer I bought to milk...but she is not going to let me. I spoil her rotten & she still wont let me touch her. I have one Beef cow her calf is going to be dinner next year, but he doesn't know it. He thinks I feed him to be nice

Actually I have 7 dishes...I don't know why...If I figure that out my wife wants to know first.
2 are super dishes (going to point) 110, 118, 119, 129... 77, 72, 61.5
1 DN500 @ 91
1 36" Motorized Ku
1 48" Motorized Ku...(I might make this one a fixed)
1 7.5' BUD
1 10' BUD

I was just down in Monett Saturday night. Monett is getting near Joplin. Joplin is right on the border

Small world, I was raised on a dairy farm west of Parsons Ks in SE Kansas.

Gold - Some young cows take to being milked pretty easily but some heifers and young cows are pretty wild, you can still break them to be milked but it takes some work.

You can use 2x4 wood instead of the pipe like they use in the pic's on this site to build a milking stall and head lock but this site explains everything much better than I could ever do on how to 'break your cow to be milked', after a cow is broke to being milked a few months to a year most will start taking to it especially if you have a bucket with some feed for them or some alfalfa hay as a treat.

I assume the heifer has been bred, because she's a milking breed its likely when she calves that she will produce way too much milk that would be healthy for her calf and thats why it would likely be a good thing that she gets milked after she freshen's.

So building or buying a stall and getting her used being herded into the stall and having her head locked will make it easier for you after she calves.

How to break a cow to being milked - .taranakifarm.com/blog/?p=65

Most of our cows after they got used to being milked kind of enjoyed it and would come in from the pasture on their own wanting to be milked when their bag was getting full of milk, they also liked the feed we gave them as it had a powdered molasses mixed into it so it had a sweet taste. LOL

Von Weise is the best actuator. It is not a ball screw, a nylon acme nut. BUT, when that wears out, you CAN take it apart and weld a steel acme nut in there and grease the heck out of it. Presto: Lifetime actuator. I've done it several times.

Ok, On a Von Weise, you will have 2 bolts where the arm ataches to the motor. Remove these, then you can remove the whole arm. Then un-screw the inner arm from the outer tube. Once done, you will see the nylon acme nut embedded in the inner tube. Take a propane torch and heat it until it falls out. Take the threaded part 'in the inner tube' to your local hardware store. NOT Lowes or HOME DEPOT. A real hardware store. They will match the threads to a steel acme nut. Go home, insert steel acme nut where nylon used to be. Weld it to the inner tube. Voila! Lifetime actuator! I should mention, you need to be mechanically inclined to attempt this. The threaded rod will still be attached to the motor. Its been a long time. Sorry.

Gold

I'll try & post some photos of my rebuild. I just bought the replacement Nylon nut for mine. It was $8.00 plus shippin/tax.

I'm sure it's more work then a metal nut, which I thought about that, but the only metal I could find was Cast. The weld wouldn't hold. You could even put a grease zerk in the top if you found/made a steel one
