At CES in January, Sony unveiled its 2010 Blu-ray disc player line-up which included the entry level Sony BDP-S370, the mid-level BDP-S570 and the Blu-ray 3D capable BDP-S770.

Last week, the firm announced one more new Blu-ray player; the BDP-S470 which Sony says will be its first stand-alone Blu-ray 3D-ready player.

The player will ship 3D ready with actual 3D functionality scheduled to arrive this summer via a firmware update. Users will also require active shutter glasses to view 3D images.

Like the previous announced models, the BDP-S470 will offer improved start up and disc loading performance and will feature Sony’s new Monolithic Design Concept, 1080p playback, dvd upscaling, HDMI 1.4 output, BD Live, various internet streaming capabilities and an Entertainment Database Browser, using Gracenote technologies, that allows users to browse details like actor and production information from a Blu-ray disc and access related content.

For iPhone and iPod Touch users Sony is also offering a free app called “BD Remote” that can be downloaded from the Apple App store. The app allows an iPhone/iPod touch to function as a remote control that includes the ability to access a Blu-ray Disc’s details such as jacket artwork, actor, and production information as well as search for additional video clips online.

The BDP-S470 will sell for $300 and be available in March.
