I have searched and searched but I can't seem to find any definitive answer.
After a few months of being offline I decided to dust off the old boxes and give it a whirl.
After a lot of cursing, got my xfta to connect stably to my new router. C/P some new server info in and start it all up but run into problems.

"CW's not received" and "failed to obtain valid control words from server", I am lost as to the cause and to the solution of this problem. I believe this is causing my lack of visual satisfaction.

Everything was working fine a few months ago and the only thing that changed was I had to factory reset the xfta to try to configure it with the new router (and a new server).
I can confirm the server connection as at the start up in the log viewer it states connected and client is waiting for requests.

I have tried reseting everything, power cycling everything (from modem to stb), re-inputting server info, and a lot of reading that seems to have gotten me no where as everything from changing the CW timeout to power cycling may or may not work and they only work sometime for some people.

I feel defeated as normally I can find a solution in the forums and piece together a solution that solves my problems but this time I am loosing the war.

I got working a different satellite provider on a different port by changing nothing but the port number(and the channel of course). I started receiving CW's magically. However when I try to add the desired original port I still get nothing but "cw's not received". This makes me believe this is not a problem on my end

I'm having the same problem with my WRT54GL router. It's not a problem with the server. It's the port. The server I am using is port 44000. It works fine when I use xx-client on my pc but when programmed into my router it fails to get the control words. I was told to port forward it in the router but I'm not sure on how to do it to make it work.

I have 3 other servers with ports 11000, 20000, and 25000 and they all work. I have been told the 44000 port was used by hackers and viruses so a lot of the router companies disable it by default. I'm not sure if that's true but it makes sense that it's blocking the control words.

What are your ports on the north and south?

Did further investigations and the websites that offer port checks give contradicting information, so don't trust them. My VPN service confirmed they do not block ports that may be used.

I looked into port forwarding and tried to make it work but I think I am missing something. Not sure if the forwarded port from the router is new port assigned to the xfta, either way I tried a bunch of numbers all over the place but it didn't work. I must be doing something wrong on either the router or the xfta on assigning the port to call.

I can also say that the working port is almost unwatchable with or without the VPN

Isn't that odd. My servers are 11000, 20000, 25000, and 44000 and they all work except for 44000. ISP blocked?

I was having problems with 11000 as well.
Newest trial is flashing the xfta as seen in, not sure if it will help but if it happens to be a firmware problem then maybe this can break the habit.

The xfta now has other problems possibly related to everything discussed. It is now a brick. The new firmware seemed to work while the xfta was working. Now sadly I can no longer log onto it wireless or wired.
