View Full Version : Ethernet Un-pluged, scrambled channel
Anyone having issue with the T5 regularly getting ethernet un-pluged errors and scrambled channel even when the ethernet is plugged into the router?
The first thing you will see is the scrambled channel message and if you go into menu and check the network, you get the message that the ethernet is unpluged.
I get this message every time I reboot and I have to factory reset the receiver, setup the dish and re-scan in order to get the ethernet back. I have tried shutting all my devices off, turning them on one by one starting with the modem, router and receiver and it doesn't help.
Any help will be great..thanks

This means that your receiver is not getting an IP. Perhaps you should reboot the router and the receiver or check the wiring.

Well, this is the first time I have ever heard of this. Usually you get that when your not getting an IP and usually a reboot of the router with the receiver off fixes this problem.

Not this problem. it looks like the firmware shuts the ethernet off. A lot more people might be having this issue without knowing its the ethernet causing it. All you see on the screen is the scrambled channel so one might think its on the server side..until you get into your network and find out the ethernet has suddenly lost the ip it had before and it will not request a new one.
I swap the cables between my NFHD and the T5 and the NFHD works with the same cable but it will not work with the T5. I have swapped the slots on the router, tried a different router with the same problems. I reboot the T5 with the back switch and reboot the router and nothing. As soon as I do a restore, the ethernet is back up and it will run till I shut it off and back to problems again.

Your Ethernet cable is not making a connection to either the box or your router. Even though you may think it is a strong connection, the cable ends may not fit precisely especially if there's a tugging of the cable from either end. (those release tabs loosen up over time and even though it sounds like it snapped in, it's loose) Snap the ends in securely and see if there is any play. If there is I'd replace the cable, of course it could be the cable slot on the box that is a little too wide thus not making a good connection.

once in a while in this world of newer and fast electronic software developers write code that forgets to tell the brain to release ram. Some products handle this better than others and those that dont will many times just freeze up if certain conditions happen that was ignored when writing code and debugging. This could even be a hard wired problem (like an e prom) It is rare in todays world but this kind of stuff still happens - It will appear as a heat problem most times but a quick restart and every thing may work fine even with the same heat (prox) being present. Giving enough time to allow the ram to clear is the key here - ever hear tech support tell you to unplug it for 30 seconds. Again - this is highly unlikely but if can happen

Simple to try...
In the network setup, set Connection Mode to STATIC and set up a static IP. First mark down all your current settings. The DHCP will have set up an IP. Let's say that it set 192.168.1.XXX . I bolded the important part. When you make a STATIC IP you have to keep this part exactly the same. The 'XXX' will be what you will change for your new Static IP. Replace it with 200 and see if that works. Now remember this is just an example. The bolded part could be different for your setup. Whatever it is you must keep the bolded part exactly the same.
Now all the rest of the values you can just copy from the setting that you saved.
Reboot your STB. Reboot your router.
Static IP saves a lot of grief with DHCP but requires that you be responsible for not assigning 2 devices the same IP.

Thanks for the input guys and gals. So far I have isolated the problem to the receiver for a few reasons. I have never had this issue with any of my other receivers when I put the same cables and router on them.
I have over 30 different length cat5e and cat6 cables in my tool bag that were manufacturer tested and a fluke 2000 cable tester. I have tried 6 cables and I still have the issue. The NFHD and the Ilink has no problem with any of these cables.
I bought a brand new router and its still having the issue. The old receivers work fine with this router.
Even if you try to put in the static info, it will not accept it if the ethernet is shut off. you get the ethernet un-pluged error message. I have tried to change from dhcp to static when its able to pick up an ip and when the ethernet is shut off again, it looses the static info and you get error messages again.
I find it hard to believe the 6 manufacturer and fluke tested cables are defective and all my old receivers, laptop and routers have such a warped ethernet ports that they can work with these cables and this T5 can't.

Tried that too and it does not work. Even if you try to put in the static info, it will not accept it if the ethernet is shut off. you get the ethernet un-pluged error message. I am having the same problems KND is having. I have bypassed the router and still do not get a connect all the time. My T5 is picking up the IP address.
I received the result from my seller. I got home today from my last stint in the field to find out the unit has a faulty board and that is why it will not retain the IPs. They tried to replace just the ethernet but did not work. Its the ethernet controller chipset embedded on the board. They are going to replace the board for me. So if anyone is having symptoms like the ones I described at the start of this thread, it could be a faulty chipset on the board so contact your seller...since there is no contact info for the manufacturer.
