Guys,

I have this AT&T 2wire Gateway and signal is weak though.

And I have this cheap router but the signal is really strong; how do I connect it?

At the Gateway tab says Network and Subnet to cascade it, where do I get that information?

Or I want it to become a repeater how do I do that?

Thanks!

Fred

If it is a 2701hgb than there isn't an repeater option. Try
192.168.1.254 to login in. Password/admin are the defaults

Plug the cheap router in to the AT&T gateway, (AT&T LAN output to the WAN input on the cheap router) use the WIFI from the cheap router, but you should shut off the WIFI from the AT&T gateway first, or change the channel on the cheap router to another one other then #6, #6 is the default channel on most WIFI routers.

Thanks Terryl! It works like a charm! :)

I was going to suggest to access the router settings by using the default gateway address of 192.168.1.254 and find the option to allow your at&t modem/router to become a pass-through. This will allow the at&t unit to simply be a modem only and will let your other router assign IP addresses and will use the wireless of the other unit.

I contacted AT&T customer service and I was a given an advice just like what Terryl wrote. How do I do your suggestion? Show me

how. I did this because I suspect that the gateway was not good enough for signal strength.

Ip Address : 192.168.1.10 <— This can be any ip address you want, but needs to start with 192.168.1.WHATEVER ADDRESS
net mask: 255.255.255.0
network: 192.168.1.0
broadcast: 192.168.1.255
gateway: 192.168.1.254

Anyway all your help are much appreciated, today I decided to change the SSID of my 2Wire Gateway and copy the password of my

cheap router. So far I haven't seen any drop on the signals, I also check the assigned DHCP range of the router and the Gateway

and they don't have the same. So far I think this is the best set up. If I see anymore drop I am going to just call AT&T and have my

Gateway replaced. Thanks!

I called AT&T and so far they responded quickly and they check the line from the street to our place. The tech said he found some

problems and I didn't bother him to ask for details, as of this writing I am still observing if there is still problem.
