Tonight I was looking try an old receiver I had sitting on the shelf, its an old CNX Nano2 converted to an iLink. My current setup was originally connected to my VS 9000 and working great. There are four dual DSS Circular LNB's connected through a quality diseqc switch.

I shut off the power to the 9000 via the rear switch as always noted, though I did not unplug the receiver from the wall outlet (and I haven't done so in the number of years I've been doing this) and disconnected the sat feed and connected it to the CNX. Once I had all the cables hooked up I plugged in the CNX and was getting LNBF flashing on the display alternating with the channel number. I tried a Factory Default to no avail, so I shut it off and disconnected it. I thought maybe a bad unit so I tried another one I had on the shelf that a friend had given me, It too gave the same result.

I then reconnected the VS 9000 and it now has no signal and no quality. I do get the occasional flash on the screen from the signal meter of 96% but, it mostly sits at 0% for both S & Q.

Have I toasted the diseqc switch or worse all the LNB's as well? Damn :(

Cheers :)

The switch could have been toasted but it's very hard to toast the LNB's. (they wont fit in the toaster) <br />

But your turning the AC power off with the switch in back would have turned off the DC...

Thanks for the reply Terryl, an update of sorts in that I checked the other feed coming from the dual LNB's before going to bed last night and they are showing a good signal, so as you mentioned the LNB's are still ok. When I get home from work I will look closer at the cable and possibly replace the cable from the wall plate to the receiver and see what that does. I've actually seen in the past where the copper wire broke off at the connector and it took me a bit to figure out what was going on. lol Will keep you updated on my findings.

Still puzzled though if its indeed the diseqc switch, as I've pulled the sat in cable numerous times without pulling the power cable from the wall and just using the rear switch on the receiver to disconnect power. If it turns out to be the diseqc I'll be sure to always pull the power cable from the outlet in the future.

With regards to bypassing the switch that'll have to wait till the weekend, as I need to get out my ladder and make my way to the roof and I'd rather do that in the daylight. :) Thanks again.

I live on the Wet Coast so no cold and static here, its just WET. :)

Cheers :)

Yesterday while working on my renovation project during the day, I took some time to quickly swap the existing Sat feed cable, from the wall plate to the receiver with a different one, to see if that provided a signal. If it too was no good, at least I could go outside in the daylight and swap the diseqc for a replacement one. The replacement cable worked and I had a 95% signal again.

Last night I got my glasses and with the aid of a bright flash light I noticed one single strand was wrapped around the copper. I removed the single strand with tweezers, reinstalled the cable and I was back in business. The odd thing is, when I initially removed the coax cable, it was the receiver end I removed as I wanted to try it on my other receiver, I didn't even touch the wall connection. I'm not sure how it went from working to not working, as the rogue strand had to be there all along.

These aging eyes are not what they once were, I guess from now on I'll be using my glasses and a flashlight when ever I make up new cables to make sure there are no errant strands that are interfering, before I place the connector on the cable.

Cheers :)

That's great news... So are you going to resume the testing now with the other receivers.....
