My nieces son has a old moped from the mid 70s and he asked me if using a lead substitute would help. I don't think it would do anything to help it since it has no valves seats to crack . would it help the engine run a bit cooler? I just don't have a answer for him.
thanks

Lead wont make a diff... The higher octane will work better for it ..as it was designed for ..back in its time.
Now for heat ..seeing if you use an lower great will make it ping..there for more heat . So if it is a heat problem ..all so check the plug..for range of heat .. Run a better fuel + colder plug ..and if needed ..rich en up the carb . These 3 things can make a diff with 2 strokes.

Just remember its ok to run a moped until you are caught :tehe:

always buy the best gas when mixing for 2 cycle . cheap or old gas is nothing but problems. always have good spark plug too.

What ever you do, do not use an ethanol blend fuel in that, it can cause some problems

In places where all regular gas is blended, premium is usually still ethanol-free. You really should be using premium fuel in 2-stroke engines anyways, but even in old cars premium fuel is safer to use because it doesn't contain ethanol (in most places).

Look here if you're having trouble finding ethanol-free fuel:

ethanol at the right percentage is not a problem . even methanol .. beside ethanol we drink ;)
