I have a H2H DISEqC 1-2 motor and a 30" dish. I read the sticky on how to set up but am still confused. I need to find my true south, I'm at -128.6. I went to dishpionter and put in my postal code and selected motorized and it gave me an elevation of 30 and azimuth of 57.3. I don't think I point my dish there at it's zero point as that's way off of where I want to be.(82,91,110,118 etc).

For a motorized system you must first set it to "True South" from your location, this puts it on track for the satellites located in the Clark belt.

This is very important, because when your motor moves from one satellite to the other the dish/motor must track the belt or it will loose satellites.

One other thing is the "True South Satellite" this is the reference satellite where everything starts tracking from, with out this your system can get lost, this satellite may be in the linear band so a good Invacom QPH-031 LNB will be the best choice for the motorized setup.

This LNB can do both types of satellites, the Dish and BEV ones (61.5, 72.7, 77, 82, 91, 110, 119 and 129) and the linear birds (like 97w) it would be hard to setup the dish correctly without first finding Due South and the Due South satellite.

Dishpointer.com has a motorized location setup to find Due South from your location, start here, set your dish to the coordinates provided from them, then find your Due South bird (you may need the Invacom LNB to do this) Dishpointer has the settings for this also.

Based on the Latitude you posted your Due South satellite may be 129W.

You can PM me with your location and I can look up the info for you, if you want.

I found this site and it has north/south info.

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm

I thought my true south sat would be 129 but not sure now. It says:

Motor latitude 54.1
Declination 7.6
Azimuth (true) 180
Azimuth (mag) 160.8 using compass

Do I take my compass and set the motor to 160 as my zero point? Then set my usals lat/long and let it take over from there?
I know I set my motor elevation to 54.1 and don't worry about the declination.

Wow got two different readings from two different sites. I went to dishpionter.com and it gave me a motor lat of 40.8 and a azimuth(mag) of 193.1
I didn't realize when I was on dishpionter it had those options(same ones on the link above that I stumbled upon.)
So what readings do I believe?

The mag (magnetic) readings include the magnetic declination for your location, this is how far off of true North your compass is pointing to the magnetic North pole.

Dishpointer.com has a map on it, zoom into your location and look to see what settings are for 129W, it will also give you a line pointing at 129W, see if this lines up as close to true South as possible, if within .5 degrees then this is your true South satellite and will be the referance satellite for your motor to go back to.

USALS is a good way to help find these birds, but you have to be dead set on the arc to track them right, if off by a few degrees you will loose out on the birds further East from you, as there is not that much to the West to look at past 129W unless you have a "C" band setup.

Yeah but why the two entirely different readings between Saudoun and dishpionter? I put in the same settings for my postal code and I chose true north/south. That's not going to be verry helpfully with the wrong info.

I used dishpointer, got it right the first time.

And I don't know why there would be a difference, I can check, and get back to you.

Ok I'll use dishpionter but yeah it weird quite a difference.

That's funny, I entered the same address at both sites and they both agree with each other.
