I've been involved with FTA for quite a few years.

My recent history is that I had a Limesat HD receiver with a private server and was content with the results until the Limesat receiver quit on me.

After researching HD receivers, I purchased a Dreamlink HD.

Here are my issues:
1) The Dreamlink HD won't let me see my settings for my private server. This is ridiculous. The Dreamlink doesn't even have a USB port at the front of the unit. This is inconvenient for loading files.
2) The receivers generally run hot. You have to remember to turn them off.
3) The receivers don't have an internal HD. I realize it's to keep the cost down, but I'd rather pay for the internal HD than to have to work with an external HD.
4) After about 6 emails, my private server provider hasn't confirmed if my current settings are correct. Not only do I not know if I entered my settings correctly, I don't know if they're still the correct settings.

FYI.......IKS and servers have nothing to do with FTA, FTA is Free To Air, not Free To All.......FTA receivers run in the linear Ku band, these receivers bin codes were modded to run in the circular Ku band, and some bin mods were not done very well, so you get what you pay for, something designed to do one job and kluged up to do another.

The 8PSK turbo FEC boards used to get the HD channels on 129W, 72.7W and 82W are not that well designed, and also are not made by the manufacture of the receiver, the software bins to use them are not from the factory software engineers but private individuals working outside the manufactures control.

If these receivers were designed right to get the 8PSK turbo FEC signals they would not be available here in North America due to FCC restrictions on their import, due to the fact that Dish and BEV are the only ones that use the Turbo FEC codes, and Dish owns the rights to use them here in North America and leases the rights to BEV.

So guys, bark all you want to, it wont do any good, but leave the true FTA out of it.

Back to my drinking of some very nice, smooth and old scotch.....

Sounds like you should have done MORE research before purchasing the box. A small fan will help with the heat issue the others are software and hardware related, nothing you can do. We also can't help you if your provider won't answer your emails...I'd find another provider.

Hi Gheagy
I know how you feel. I had the same problems you are having. First if you do not have the right server info you are going to be beating your head against the wall. Second the server info and the firmware info will always be invisible. If you don!t put the right info in you will get nothing out. The dreamlink has a plugin module that controls your 8psk HD. I have been through it all so if you have any questions ask away. Good Luck Bill

If you have had a PS before you should know how to enter the info they all setup the same you just have to double check your info before you exit out of that setting and go onto the next setting ,You can't see the server info because its for your privacy that way if anyone goes into the server settings then they can't see what your code is.No FTA has a built in HD that I know of except the Capitiveworks 3K and 4K Make sure the heat sink is installed properly and it will only get warm not hot the only DLHD receiver that doesn't need a heatsink it the new one The T5.If your not sure how to set it up then there are How setup a DLHD in the forums alls you have to do is look for them.

Privacy is not an issue. Being able to see my settings is. The settings could be password protected for privacy.

I did research. The Dreamlink HD receiver has good reviews. Why doesn't the manufacture install fans or heat sinks or make the boxes bigger?

Why aren't the heatsinks factory installed? I know that I can use make2dream to load server settings, but what an inconvenience. Then, how do I check if they loaded properly?

can't be factory installed since they can't legally install the module
if you can't connect then you didn't load correct info

gheagy, is this your first unit? No.
Every post you have made has some sort of gripe regarding this unit.
It is a great unit and this "hobby" has a substantial learning curve for those that have never set a new (different) unit up before. This is where a lot of reading comes into play then trying things and then asking for help when stuck.
If you are that unhappy with this unit then pack it up. JMO

I got rid of mine. Not seeing the P$ settings was an inconvenience but not having front/back USB ports was inexcusable in this day and age, especially since I needed one for a laptop cooler and I plug my external HDD into different devices at different times.

I have had two running since the dreamlink hd was introduced. It does not need any cooling devices if heatsink is installed properly
