When hooking coax to switch, lnb or receiver, the receiver must be off.
Signal is a connection between receiver and lnb
Quality is information coming from satellite to lnb. Poor quality means poor alignment to satellite.

Been a while since I had mine converted. But if memory serves me right once you convert over the q&s meter can be a really fickle afterwords. If i was going to use this unit to aim a dish I would do it before conversion. Or with the factory file. I've got a pansat 2700A that will show about 20% on one of em all the time. With or with out the cable connected.
