It took three overtime periods to do it but the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night. Andrew Shaw scored the winner off a deflection at 12:08 of triple overtime.

The Bruins led 3-1 midway through the third period but the Blackhawks fought back with two late goals to send the game to overtime.

Milan Lucic opened the scoring midway through the first period and added his second of the game less than a minute into the second period.

Brandon Saad answered for Chicago just minutes later though to cut the Bruins' lead.

Patrice Bergeron scored on Boston's first power play of the game midway through the third to stretch the Bruins' lead. The lead wouldn't hold though as Dave Bolland answered for the Blackhawks less than two minutes later and then Johnny Oduya tied the game with a shot that deflected past Tuukka Rask.

The Blackhawks, who won the Presidents' Trophy this season, hold home-ice advantage and will also host Game 2 on Saturday.
