The video stutters, freezes for a few seconds, plays fine for maybe half a second, then stutters and freezes again. It keeps doing this.

Any ideas? Lav Video filters, Microsoft MPEG, and nvidia purevideo was all tried and the situation was the same.

Software is mediaportal 1.3.0. Hardware is a technotrend tt-budget 1401 dvb-s pci card.

Core i7 quad-core processor, 16gb ram, geforce titan graphics card.

I've spent hours building a HTPC with a focus on DVB DVR roles. Mondoman's guide is the best out there. Only issue is the video stuttering. I've done testing on 2 different computers with win xp & 7. I believed my issue was with the codec or the acamd service.
- I signed up for several providers, same.
- tried n3xt, same.
- tried diff codec, same
- diff graphic cards, same
- diff mediaportal versions, same.
- bought second skywalker card, same

I must admit that I had fun testing & was entertained by mondoman & the bunch. My next hope is Ubuntu & tvheadend. It looks like darkmatters is breaking into some good results. I'm thinking about giving it a go

Thanks guys. I tried the K-Lite codec pack you posted and even the standard version which includes an mpeg2 decoder and still the same problem. The video plays for about 1 second, freezes for about 5-10 seconds, plays for 1 seconds, and continues this. Also I noticed that the ffdshow icons weren't in my taskbar when the video was playing. Normally when ffdshow is being used the icons at least appear. It seems as if the codecs aren't even being used by Media Portal, but how would one fix this?

Did you try something like dvbdream or something else besides media portal? Could be media portal itself causing the freeze..

I tried DVBDream, MyTheatre, and DVBLink. What happens in those programs are a bit different. The video plays for a minute or so (with distortions and pixelation) and then it freezes. If I try another channel it won't work and the signal will be gone. It works fine on my fta receiver, just not this tuner card. I'm starting to believe this tuner card is messed up.

You could be right i had a budget tuner card here and have had troubles with it turning the program i was using on and off.. Acting strange on the siganal bar also.. I went out and bought a twinhan 1020a works great so far so good.. The only other thing i can suggest which you may already done was update your c++ to the new 2010 one and your netframework to the new version besides that you have the right or updated driver for that card also your budget and dvb card? Good luck let us know how you make out might help someone else having the same problem..

Interesting discovery. I grabbed a spare hdd and installed Windows 7 on it. The card seems to actually work now! Only problem is, there are very small distortions/corruption to the video every maybe 30 or so seconds? it's just a tiny bit annoying otherwise the card seems to be working. I'm thinking of reinstalling Windows 8 (as a fresh install)on that same drive to see if it works or not. It could be my current installation is causing the problems although I did remove every codec, filter, and even mediaportal and reinstalled. Same problem on my primary Windows 8 installation.

Nothing of iks was mentioned. Nothing of torrents was mentioned, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

The problem was fixed. It was Microsoft Security Essentials. Adding mediaportal to the excluded list fixed the problem.
