I understand that I am able to record using a Nano Premium receiver.
I was just wondering if anyone knows how it's done.
Also how do I play back my recording.
If anyone knows where I can find instructions on how to do this - please
Thank you

Well, that sounds quite easy - but I imagine that it's a little more involved.
I noticed that the Nano Premium has 2 USB ports - can either one be used? Are USB ports "input and output"?
Does the portable harddrive need to be formatted to Fat16 or Fat32?
Also, can the harddrive be 500gig in order to work
And if using a USB stick does it also need to be formatted to either Fat 16 or 32?
Thank you

There used to be several posts about this before Satfix was "resurrected" but I think those are all gone. Basically you can use either USB port although the front is more convenient. You can record on the go - just press the record button to start and then stop to end - or you can use the time record function in the menu - utiility section. That allows you to specify a channel, start time and duration to record. As far as devices go, I believe you can use 500gig and it should be formatted to FAT32. I think any device you use needs to be FAT32. One thing to watch out for is software preloaded on the hard drive or USB stick. You have to remove that otherwise it prevents the Nano from using the disk. Another common issue was to press REC and then get a box saying Unknown Error. I've tried various things to avoid that but it still happens occasionally. Now, in my experience, if you just leave the message on the screen, you will see that your USB stick or drive is flashing - meaning that you are still recording. So, leave the error on the screen for an hour or however long you want to record, then come back and press OK. Nano will then reboot but if you check the USB device you should find your program recorded on it. Try also to use a good quality USB stick or harddrive - I think they take a beating during recording and some don't last long. That's about all I can think of now - if you have more questions just post them. I don't check this site every day but I try to look regularly.

Thank you horhorta for you detailed explanation - that really helps me out.
I guess my only other question would be - playback.
I understand that it's a file format that only the Nano receiver will play back. Unless of course you convert it, which takes quite some time to do.
I thank you again for your help.

I've tried to convert that TS file and I always get the audio out of sync. I guess I can keep on trying but if you really want to keep whatever you record the best bet is playing it back on the Nano and record straight to a DVD.

You can play videos back on any computer straight from the USB drive by selecting the .ts suffix files You will need a program that can handle transport stream(.ts) files. I really like MPCStar(version 5.3) which is freeware and can be downloaded from xxx.mpcstar.com(substitute w for the triple x). There is also mplayer classic (mplayer.exe) which is also freeware and available at various sites. These both run with Windows XP/Vista/7/8. If you use linux, some versions of gnomeMplayer and VLCplayer will play the nano files. You can also burn them straight from USB to DVD using a Windows program called ConvertXtoDVD4 offered by VSO Software. It's pretty quick and easy to use. It is not a free program but if you look around you should find a hacked version for free - otherwise you can buy it for about $70 from VSO Software. Converting .ts files is a bit painful - most converters I've tried are very slow and the converted files become very large. A windows freeware program called DVDStudio isn't too bad. I've had the best success with a linux program called ffconvert v1.2.
