I had heard they were very problematic, what the difference between version 1 and 2??
what service are you using?
can it handle multiple serivices/ports??
how is the wifi??
streaming video from a computer via router??
Thanks for any and all info

The Jynx can be problematic. The version 2 is a little more stable than 1. Yes it will handle multiple servers. It has no built in wifi. Dont know about the streaming, but others say it does well. The pvr is not very reliable. The box gets a little warmer than others and can sometimes require a reboot/cool down, depending on your configuration. sd picture not as good as I-link. Easy to setup
I'd rate - 10 on price
- 8 on picture quality
- 5 on component quality
- 7 on software
Just my oppinion...

I don't know how peoples boxes are getting hot. The majority do not have a heat issue.
Makes me start to think that those that do are just cramming the unit into a tight corner with no ventilation whatsoever.

I was told the i-link 9600hd is good if you want a toaster LOL
seems odd that cramming could be the cause, I would cosider adding a computer fan for additional cooling persoanlly
so Anubis do you own a jynxbox?? whats your opinion?? on the unit
Thanks
Bill

yes I have one.
I have one of the first ones out and have no heat issues.
There are a couple things that the Jynx team need to work on to make the box complete however as it is right now as far as I'm concerned it's the best bang for your buck out there for an HD unit.

and hd picture is as good if not better than the i-link hd??
it will be being used on private server if that matter??
it will be being hooked to private servers and I was told it handles that just like the i-link??
thanks again

its there LNB, and cable run more than 40 ft, my 39 inch hot dish with HH motor works perfect with the jynx, no heat, but when
i hook it to my dish 500 with DPP lnb without a power inserter, it will get hot and reboot.

sounds like the overheat issue may be due to drawing too much power, ill bet adding a power insrter will solve it...
mine doesnt overheat running 5 standard lnbs...
jynxbox is ok. pvr is broken, but that may be fixed soon, i hope... i like the guide layout better than dreamlink...

I have a jynxbox v2 with jb200
running bin 233. old style dish 1000 with dpp lnbs (110/119/129) and ecoda 22khz switch. probably 50 foot rg6 coax cable run to my jynxbox. no heating issues or rebooting issues for me. I also like the fact that the jynxbox will play just about any video torrent download like mkv and avi

so the picture is good for both hd and sd???
I will be runing about 30 ft or less of cable and the old direct tv dish with multiple standard lnbs, (at least 10 years old) will I be fine??
have any of the receivers really been able to stream after being modded?? I have had one that worked well yet??

Regret to say that the SPDIF optical out is: 0 (i.e. doesn't work)

Worked for me. Make sure your system>AV Setting>Digital Audio Out is set to "Auto".

Hmmm, must be a v2 problem. But the only one I see posting about it was nbatam.

The V1 Jynxbox was more stable and had fewer problems than the V2 Jynxbox. The V1 could not handle two tuners, therefore the reason for V2. It will handle two tuners in various setups, but it caused many problems. One was that the SPDIF now does not work with the V2 only with V1. The V2 has problems with the front display going blank and garbage for channel numbers at times. The V2 cannot handle multiple servers being on at the same time when there is an overall channel dropping off it tends to lock and need a restart by the back switch, especially if the channel is long coming back up. Seems if you run multiple servers when a channels freezes on one server all servers see the channel freeze. The V2 will sometimes go into the menu without being told to do so. I hear that there is a V3 coming out, I wonder what that will fix or add to the problems, maybe it will fix the recording issue and make more people buy a second or third Jynxbox.

Hi Lowteck, can I connect RF Out from the Jinxbox to my TV cable/antenna IN and let the TV do the tuning? My TV has SPDIF output.
No, all tuning needs to be done by the receiver.

Lowteck pretty much right on. I resent having to buy a new box to fix problems on advertized features of the V1. Jynx is really pushing it with that crap. V2 should have solved all the issues. All issues were known b4 it came out. V2 has plenty of processor with dual core risc. Look at how long they take to turn out a new bin with any fixes. That really stinks too. Come on coders! Get off the dime and fix something. If the V2 needs its own bin then do that but come on, do something. And then we have guys trying to cool these boxes. Hell, I have mine sitting on a laptop cooler. That stinks too. If it needs a fan put a damned fan in it! Don't make the users cobb up their own solutions.
Please forgive the rant. I am loosing my patience with these guys. Watch, they turn out a V3 box and that will run hot too. Maybe it will also have quality problems with JB300? Sorry, I am just out of patience 2day.

My settings are correct. Is your STB running on bin 233 or 237? I loaded file 237 to my first V2 but the SPDIF didn't work , so I took the receiver back to the dealer and changed another one , which came with file 233. But still no audio signal from the SPDIF port and I have to use the RCA composite connections for my home theatre system. It's a bit disappointed to have HD TV but without digital audio.

I would give a 6 to Junkbox HD on a scale of 1-10. Specially if I compare it with my SV8K.
Disappointed with the picture quality of Junkbox, both SD and HD.
With that said, just wanted to add that I have been using it for almost two months, V2.
I have no heating issue. I leave it on 24/7.
I have hardly any freezing issue. (that could also be from the server you are connected to)
Also using the SPDIF with my Sony surround sound system without any problem. SPDIF works fine for me.
I do not like the remote because of its small buttons.
Fairly easy to setup.

To the contrary, I like the picture from the Jynxbox. You compare to what is no longer available. Not a fair comparison. Why not compare it to NFusion HD too? Pointless. Besides, its digital. Not going to be much different. I look at the Jynx pic on my 55" Samsung and it looks great. Picture quality depends as much on the TV as the STB. More to the point is that the older boxes were quality made. The newer ones don't seem to suffer from a problem with high quality. I would equally say that for both the Jynxbox and the Dreamlink. Better buy one from a good dealer. Must drive those poor guys nuts. Too bad to. Both seem to be equally blessed with heat issues too. But picture quality is really not an issue with either one. If you're going to pick on them, they sure have plenty of warts but picture quality is not one of them.

My apologies to all of you and Jinxbox as well! There's nothing wrong with the SPDIF of my V2 receiver, my settings and the optical cable. After days of checking I found that there was an auto audio input error on my Yamaha AV receiver. I have now fixed it and the V2 receiver is working fine - with Dolby Digital sound!
I heard that some people had overheating issues on the V2 receiver. I raised the receiver about 1" with 4 small cubes of wood and left the top and sides of the receiver clear. The receiver is sitting on top of other sound equipment in a rear-open cabinet. So far there have been no overheating issues and I am very satisfied with the performance of my Jinxbox.
@nbatam, I'm glad it works for you now! My Yamaha does that from time to time, when it sees an extra IR command that pushes it to go to DTS, vs. Dolby Digital.
By the way, v3 for the Jynxbox is due to be released in the next couple of weeks, bringing wifi. Someone talked to Jynx and said that new firmware was pending release also, but maybe they held off due to the release of v3.

It looks like it may already be on the market, I saw this earlier today:
hxxp://www.aliexpress.com/item/Jynxbox-Ultra-HD-including-JB200-QPSK-Module-shipping-by-DHL-or-Fedex-6-8-days-shippment/748202109.html
I hope they don't ignore the earlier versions of the receiver and just keep putting out newer boxes.
Cheers :)

You might want to take a look at the LinkBox 8000HD Plus for a new HD receiver. I am very pleased with its out of the box performance (once I figured out how to make it work!), pic quality, FAV list, recording, etc. It does well out of the box what JB is still working on.....My JB is no longer in use, replaced by this box....

DreamLink HD, in my opinion, is better than the JB v2. I have both units. Jynx is sluggish at time, and at times has issues connecting to svrs. The scanning can also be a pain with the jynx. Dreamlink HD works flawlessly.... No lag, no "connection failed".
Ilink is good if you only need to connect to either north or south, not both.

I have those two boxes as well and yet I would also consider the Linkbox 8000HD Plus if I were someone in the market for an HD stb. The epg isn't quite there yet, but the picture quality, recording ability and overall ease of use make it a strong contender!
