HI all, Ive dabbled in fta recievers for the last 3 or 4 years and would like to expand my tinkering/knowledge. Ive been doing some reading on linux based boxes and see on ebay that dreamboxes go relatively cheap now. would this be something worth investing in? It seems that dreamboxes are capable of so much more than a regular fta reciever. Thanks for any input, good, bad or otherwise!

Yes Candyman they are a good receiver if you like to play and try things. Not like FTA receivers you can do a lot more with them. But the only draw back is you should have a like more knowledge based. I'm running right now 3 dreamboxes on servers. 2 with Gemini images and 1 with PLIopen image. I'm playing around with them. I do have my PLI imager running off my nas harddrive right now which lets me record to it, also I can watch TV on my laptop through my DB right now. It's about a 2 second delay on my wireless. These are something you can try with a Linux base receiver not like FTA. So if you do try one you will have to do a lot of reading on these receivers.
When I got my first DB it cost me about 300.00 about 8 years ago but was worth every penny to me.
But that what I think.
Someone else might have a different feeling.
Any decision you make I wish you the best.

They are fun receivers to play with. Don't expect to buy an original however as they have stopped making them about 5 years ago. The clone units run pretty well as compared to original but the price is very different. A lot of reading is required in order to set it up and get it running properly. It is not a plug and play box.
