looking to help someone try and find their problem.
anyone that has one... someone that's been inside ect..
will running one with the hd module removed(no module at all) make the front display not work?
with the psk200 installed it won't boot up.
remove module and it will boot up but no front display and of course no signal in antenna set up.
this is all the info i have at the moment.
they don't want to spend any money if the box is cooked.
let me know what you think and if maybe someone would pull thier psk200 and see if it does the same(no front display).
thanks

it should boot normally, that's just a tuner so should not effect the front display at all, good luck

well it wouldn't boot for them after they bought it.
i had them send me a pic of the ps and i seen no bulged caps.
while i was talking to them i figured pop the board out and see.
they did and then it booted up and no front display.
it had old files from n2 on it..no wf files so it's been out of use for a while.
just looking for someone to pop thier module out and see if the display pops up like normal.
if it does i'll have him buy a new psk200.
i had them load the cleaner/factory file with the module out and they said it loaded fine and reset to factory spec.
they put module back in and no boot again.
i didn't know if a module could short out...anyways.
thanks

edit
his terminology for "not booting" meant no picture.
i just found out that it only had a blue light on the front when he bought it.
so i guess it was booting or trying to but when he removed the module and powered on from the back he had a picture...searching some channel he said and could go to menu ect..
hope this clears things up as all of the above info is correct except for the booting part.
thanks

I have a VS Max and just read this.
I opened mine and pulled the psk200 and it boots fine and front display works fine which I thought it would.
If the blue circular menu ring light on the front is on then he has power and it is working ok.
I would get a new board.

kenkell1 has done exactly what i asked.
i will let him know to grab a module and go from there.
his display may be bad but at least if he can get it working he won't have lost the money he paid(to much for non working box)IMO.
thank you kenkell1
much appreciated.

Strangely the same exact thing just happened to mine last week?!?!? Took out the module and put a new one in and it started working again but still couldn't get display back and than 2hours later signal went out and it went into a bootloop.. Only way to get out of it was to remove the module but once the module is put back in it starts to loop again so I'm thinking it has something to do with the power supply. I also tried all the bootloop fixes to no avail so i hooked up my ultra lite and all is working fine now so I know it has nothing to do with my satellite or switches...

new tid bit of info.
he said with the top off and the module in you can hear tinging sounds if you get your ear close to the box?
like faintly strumming guitar stings above the nut..real high pitch and no certain pattern.
haunted?? lol
i'll post back after he gets his new module and gets it installed..hope he don't loose his arse but the post above this sounds just like his problem.
thanks again

Nah he won't lose his arse. Worst case scenerio he loses 20 bucks for a new sk200. Hope he doesn't lose anything though.

I had the same problem and it was the power supply, I fixed by replacing (I think) the 2200uF caps

i thought power supply from his description of problem but the pic he sent shows perfect looking flat top caps with no leakage.
hey boxing fan,
was your ps caps bulged or leaking?
the 20$ or so for the module isn't a big deal but he bought the box off local CL for a hundoo bucks thinking he could flash it back to life.
newbee ya know.
thanks for every ones comments and answers.

No the power supply looked good, it was a an used receiver that I bought with the same symptoms, I took the caps from a vs ultra I don't remember if I replaced two or three I know they are 2200uf the closest to the front of the receiver

he just messaged me and said the new module didn't help or change anything.
he said towards the front of the ps there are 3 fat caps..2 short and one tall.
he said one of the short caps blistered...

I actually received another Vs Max yesterday to replace my old one which was having these same problems and just to make sure I switched out the PS out of the new one into the old one and it worked:)...
