Hello all, I recently moved from my parents house to a equal opportunity apartment complex, and the place was cable and Internet ready,

however I choose to go with Comcast/Xfinity Internet and my Limesat Ultra was set up for a DishNetwork antenna(at my parents house)... And since my apt is cable ready with jacks installed already, I don't know what dish I'm trying to pull the signal from... I hooked it up and searched for 110 and 119, but I'm not sure of the settings I should put for this set up.

Thanks for the help in advance all of you.

so you just ran a cable from the wall jack to the receiver? Forget it that isn't going to work unless you mount a dish someplace

Haha ya basically that's what I did. Because its cable tv ready. So them wall jacks have to be hooked to something right..?, if its Comcast dish, DirectTv, or Dish Network Dish'S that they have installed all around this complex. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe them are other people's Dishes. But the landlord gave me a paper that tells the rules on dishes.

Like they can't be mounted to external wall, on roof, etc.. But I think it's alright to have it on a pole, I thought about mounting one in my room and pointing it to the south. But that would be stupid and cluttered. Might not even work.

Any suggestions...(Maybe call Dish network and have them come hook and install dish and then cancel service and then have them leave the dish...)

5 gallon bucket 3-4 foot pole and some ready mix...mount the dish and setup on balcony or patio

So there's no way of just plugging it into the wall jack and messing with antenna settings? Cause when I did it the first time I actually found some signal and quality....

There is dish's already mounted on the outside that others in this place is hooked to. Couldn't I just run a cable 4rm theirs to mine, it's only a couple feet down from my apt. Window...

That wall outlet is cable TV, not satellite. Your receiver is useless.

I doubt it cause there's dish's the same as my parents, just 3 feet from my window on posts. It's not useless there's a way. Just have to find out which way.

There may be a dish, but is it wired to go to your apartment and to the outlet that you screwed cable to? And is your apartment the only place the cable goes to? Most apartment buildings do not run a single dish to a single apartment unless the previous renter had it put in for his or her use.

A dish is cheap to buy so you don't have to sub and un-sub to get one. A dish inside the house will work if you point it out a window that has a line of sight to sats--about a 40 degree angle up and roughly to the south.

Best camouflage one could want. Who would ever suspect a house being a satellite dish!:tehe:

My window is like 2 ft. from the ground so my first plan was to just mount to wall in my room, since it gots a nice clear view to 97,110,119,129. But the dish I have is a old directv dish, which is a bit bigger than dish net turbo HD dish,

but I decided I'm just going to do 5 gal. bucket, with a post cemented to middle, then attach dish then just leave it in my room looking out the window, and if I needed to I could just put it out window if need be. I don't watch TV often but when I do, I like to watch some Nat Geo and BET, MTV, and Poker(ESPN). But my PS3 and Internet keep me busy.

17614south is to the right in that pic. So if I was to put it inside it would be pointing perfectly at 110,119. Or I could just set it right there when I watch and bring it back in when I'm done.

If it's a modern two pane glass window then your going to, or may have reception problems.

Most newer two pane windows have a UV film on them (between the two pieces of glass) to cut down on the UV sun fade problems with the carpet or furniture, this film is a very very very thin coating of metal, this will cut down on the 12 GHz signal from the satellites, this signal is very very weak to begin with, the additional attenuation from the windows may make it very hard to get a lock on the satellite(s).

One way to fix this is use a larger dish, another way is to use plexiglass in the windows, a frame could be made to hold the plexy in place.

So keep the original window and install plexi between the screen and window?

If the screen is fiberglass then yes, if aluminum then you have to remove it also.

Also if this would be a security problem,(ground floor window) then you will have to make the frame fit on the inside of the window, and secure it somehow so it can't be forced from the outside.

And even with no screen or metal coating on window, there is loss going through glass so expecting multiple sats with multiple LNBs might be unreasonable. Outside mounting is better choice--if you have a balcony that would be good place. Don't forget that the dishes do not have to mounted in the standard vertical orientation--they can be sideways and upside down, and sure that makes mounting multiple LNBs a problem, but if the dish is right where you can get to it, you can always swing it around to another spot and wedge the elevation up and down a little using a single LNB at the sweat spot.

Have you talked to the building management at all? Since there are other dishes, I wouldn't think that they're prohibited. Best thing to do is to try and get permission to do a proper install, since you're on the ground floor a pole mount would probably work for you. They may require that a competent installer with proper insurance do the work though.

The plexiglas window thing definately wouldn't fly with most building management. I wouldn't want a dish inside anyways, that would be quite the eyesore.

I'm not doing plexiglass thing, and I'm not installing it on the outside grounds of the complex, because its prohibited unless professional install. So I'll just put it in my room, the windows fine, it get the amount of signal that I need it to get. Lol like I said I don't watch tv all the time so although it might be a eye sore, it will be put in the closet till I need it. So I got it figured out. I just need another donation... Can I maybe get help with this?
