Looks like I will need to replace the actuator arrm on my 8' bud just looking for some simple advice. I ordered the arm years ago 18" just incase I ever needed, 20 years is a awesome ride. Thank you all

What type of help do you need? Just remove the previous actuator with the new one. I would save the sat position on your positioner so you won't have to reprogram it, ensure that the new motor is extended out as much as the one being replaced. Worst case scenario, just reset your west and east limits.

I agree with what Costactc said. I would also caution you not to do a complete memory reset/wipe of your receiver. It may be tempting to do that (to start from zero) but you will lose all the newer satellites out of memory and will only be left with some old sats, just do the East and West Limits as Costactc said and then you will likely need to redo the individual satellite fine tuning.

Edit: Never mind, I re-read your post and I take it your actuator is totally dead. In that case, run the new one to the same length as the existing, as close as you can get it. Then you can go and set your East and West limits, and hopefully the pulse count won't be too far off. Some or all of the satellite positions may require a little fine tuning. If you're using a 4DTV, count on redoing all of your positions.

I'm leaving the following just in case someone stumbles across this thread and their actuator is not totally dead:
I would move the dish (using the receiver) to either:
Your West limit if your dish is set up for Linear West (usually for those East of the Mississippi River)
Your East limit if your dish is set up for Linear East (usually for those West of the Mississippi River)
At that position your actuator will be fully retracted or very close to it.

Ok guys False alarm, the deep freeze took a break here in the east coast we at 40 degrees today and guess what! Back in storage for my backup arm. As they say if it is not broken leave it alone. Thanks for all the helpful advice guys I will print it out and save in the box with actuator. I am getting old and forgettable these day. In my younger years I would of remembered not to move dish when it is this cold out.
