I have an xfta router set up with my Viewsat Ultra, it is very unrealiable. It will work for awhile then I get no video & no signal & have to keep rebooting the STB & router. Is any body else having these problems & do you know of a fix so it will keep running. I never had these problems with the weather forcaster !!! I am using nfps. Thanks for any help. DHScooter

I have ran xfta for a year now...only time it looses connection and takes a while to kick back in or i have to start and stop it is when i go onto a non subscribed channel for a period of time like 5-10 seconds or so....other than that a great unit for me....

Change your control word time out to 2. It's set to 12 by default in my opinion it's set too high...
It was once explained to me why it's set so high, but I still maintain for these particular purposes it should be set from 2-5

I have the same problem on my VS 9000HD + XFTA. Other than that is perfect.

turn you control word timeout to like 15 seconds. consider what you are doing, and then tell me if you think it can all happen in 2 seconds

the scrambling does not change for like 20-30 seconds so if you set 15 you actually give the router a fair chance at making the magic happen
log in to the x fta dongle and set control word timeout to 1 then build configration file save all running viewsat hd 9000 no here on rocket

I agree with Bossdodge, a longer control word timeout seems to work better. If you sit on a channel that does not come in, why would you want the router to timeout in 2 seconds instead of 15 seconds? It gives you some more time to change the channel to an active channel before the XTFA router requires a reset.

bad info...
Try pinging any server and see how long it is for a round trip. You will see that it takes much less then two seconds.
By raising the control word time out from the default your telling it to wait even longer to fail over and send another control word request. It would be even worse if you had multiple servers enabled...
I would much rather have it fail over sooner and send another request sooner than later..

The smartest way to use this equipment is to have channel list or edit a favorite list of all the channels that are working on your server so you never go to a scramble channel.

Best thing I did for this XFTA was to install DDWRT on it and use as a high performance router.. Put the viewsat in the closet and used another box..
the headache of trying to delete channels that are not on server..and then do it every few weeks after new channel scans... having to wait and wait for a picture when you spend time on a non working channel..
headache..
