Hi Pinkfloyd welcome to the machine.

If it has a LAN connection on it then hook it into your router, ether with a CAT5 cable or if it has internal WIFI set it up with the correct security for your router, then set it up to access your router, (pick up an IP address) then go to its on screen menu and let it download any updates.

If it doesn't have a LAN connection you cant up date it, what is its model number?

Also check if the region settings are correct in its menu, some of the overseas regions will not play US or Canadian blue ray disc's. Look on the dish to see what regions it will play in.

Also some of the newer blue ray disc units will not play copied or PC burned discs, nor will they play copy-guard busted or pirated disc's.

Also where you posted this was not the right section for this type of question, so I moved this to were it would fit in a bit better. (sorry we don't have a BlueRay section)

There is a new copy protection ..well over a year . If you watch copied movies (your back ups) on a BP .machine ..sony was the first . It is called Cinavia protection . No fix for as of yet . But am sure there will be . Its like the old days ,it is in the sound .
It shut the sound off about 10 to 15 minutes into move ..and a splash screens comes up ..there are a few more troubles with it .
Anyways ..when you go to manufacture to get your firmware ' most will have a description on the new firmware . If it does ,read it ..it will tell you it has Cinavia in it and everything else.
If it doesn't have any other formats in updates ..I wouldn't bother with it .

Because once it is in ..that's it .

Now this protection hasn't effected dvd plays ..but sure it is on its way .

Just quick heads up .
