Why are they so cheap compared to other hd recievers? There is not much said about them good or bad. If they work good, wouldn't they be the best to get on the market?

No one knows when it comes to prices....
Like a Jynx ...200$ to me is the cheapest ive found
For what it does and not heating up jynx should be 270 no ? but it isnt ...good for all of us ....price not always means if box is good or not !

I think jynx is priced appropriatly for what it does. As tech improves price reduce when it come to tech. I was wondering why openbox s10 hd is only $100 and no one mentions it. It must have some big issues.

So it is low quality components that makes the price so cheap? Does it work ok? Maybe good for a cheap alternate reciever?

Probably works ok for Fta but if you want providers HD it doesn't work and no guide

They work great for true fta and exactly as riverman just posted.

Well that certainly explains it. Thanks

The Open box is actually a very well made fta receiver compared to other names. Unfortunately for them there isn't as much of a market for true free to air.
The average price of IKS HD boxes has dropped roughly $100 in the last year and a half, due to the dwindling market. It's natural for the price of similar boxes to drop in proportion.

you can't kill an openbox receiver, since the processor itself has built-in code that keeps the rs232 port working so you can recover via rs232 even if the flash is corrupt or completely blank.
The s10 still gets n2 radio on 97w with card in slot.

I have been buying fta receivers since 2004 and never spent more that $125 on a receiver.
Looking at the pansat 9500hd and manhattan rs 1933 there is no reason they should be as expensive as they are.
In this day and age no receiver should cost more than $125 out the door.
There are chinese websites with factory prices for bulk purchases and you can see how much the dealers are jacking up the price to you.

i have a s10 which i got for 41 smakers .and i killed it about 7 times trying all kind on updates to use a new chinese product in serial port "wont say ", i taught it were dead, until i found a loader form the manu-f
and reburned the nand.. now its working .. i even changed the startup screen logo to say openbox, then back to skybox .
and its small as a pocket sized external portable hdd..

It all comes down to supply and demand. Just about all of the Fta receivers could be sold for
under $50. As long as the market is there we will have suppliers. At one time cassette players were
going for $300. plus. CD/DVD players same thing Flat screen TV as the market becomes saturated
price drops.. In the case for Chinese products they have no patent laws. After one company spends
their money on R&D the china man buys one and the Clones start to appear. Any SD receiver can be
manufactured for less than $6.00.

Actually it does do HD very well. No it will not get HD that requires turbo 8psk but it does do other HD signals with EPG too. Those in the 58w beam or 125w beam, OpenBox is a winner.
