I have a friend who is looking at getting into FTA and is looking at buying a DreamLink HD with 8spk, but he also needs to record OTA channels since it seems most the servers do not include the main networks I.e 241, 242,
ABC CBS etc.
Is there a way to add an ATSC tuner to Dreamlink unit's to add OTA recording capabilities? Or is there another "supported" receiver that would work for him?
I know the SV8000HD would work, however they are getting pretty rare north of the border to buy.
if he is getting an hd box he has an hd tv ... most have an excellent qam tuner built in and would suffice to hook up to antenna.. i get all the detroit locals in hd this way hope it helps.

Thanks,
Good point, I'll recommend that as well...I'm thinking he was looking for the PVR part as well though

a few receivers that I know of have a built in atsc tuner for ota channels like the nfusion HD, sonicview HD and VS9000HD, the new jynxbox has the add-on option for an atsc tuner (not included) but has yet to be released, last news was the 1st of november they should be available, as far as pvr they all have the ability but some receivers work better than others like the sonicview which probably has the best pvr out of the bunch listed, the nfusion and VS9000 are decent for pvr and the jynx has some bugs with the pvr but it is being worked on being that it was just released a few months ago and still pretty much in a beta state when it comes to the pvr, imho the dreamlink HD would be my last choice for an HD receiver, many other options to choose from that are built better with proven 8psk boards not the crappy sk200 the dreamlink uses which is known to cause problems and often fail completely

Pansat 9200 would do the job. I'm sure you could find one that somebody would part with.

Iv'e told him to try to find one of your recommended receivers!

I'd certainly be open to that if someone lives in the GTA region, even better :)

Alright,
So, getting a bit closer, tonight my buddy and I "tried" to get the nfushion HD going, loaded the factory f/w then 27r then the transponder/channel bin...So far so good. But, for whatever reason can't seem to get 110 to come in for the life of us...not sure if there's a conflict on the DiSEqc settings or not, but tried every port, and every LNB setting I could find...The signal and title (110) would come up strong like >80 then drop to zero...119, stable! 129, stable!
I know there's nothing wrong with my signal as I can plug it back into my DN receiver and all three sats are booming signal.
So in a nutshell, Im at a loss with all the DiSEqc setting's.
My LNB's are these: hxxp://www.canadasatellite.ca/Dish-Network-Dish-Pro-Plus-Twin-LNBF-DPP-Twin-LNB-p/dish-pro-plus-twin-lnb.htm
with a single LNB plugged into the 3rd port.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks again for the reply, I just used 119 as an example, but in a nutshell, I cant seem to get a signal lock on any of the sats anymore, granted I've been changing so many settings my head is spinning...lol
Essentially, I have all 3 sats locked in on my DN receiver but, this stubborn nfushion HD seems to be finicky...Can anyone verify the
DiSEqC settings above to be correct?
Also, noticed this "Service not available" message across the top of the screen when not in setup mode...

Yep, thats what I use, small 8" TV at the dish...works great!
Yeah, got the dish setup alright...Nice and strong, what I'm reading is FTA receivers put out 500ma-600ma from the receiver and those DPP Lnb's need 750ma.
I'll keep fiddling with it.

if your using the nfusion HD lnb power supply should not be an issue as the nfusion HD puts out 1000ma
