I have a netgear WGR614 V4 router I bought new in 2003 for a PC and its been running ever since.I think it is tired?
The main PC is hardwired to it and also a Xeps103 Netgear powerline.
That powerline runs signal to 4 other remote PLs.
one is on a NFHD , 2 are on other Nanos and one is on my wifes PC. The nanos and NFHD are running P$.
I have had to reboot the router several times a day the past few weeks.
Loosing PC connection and my NFHD has had problems getting connected lately.
I have worked on my network Connection on the NF but have had no luck.
I dont know if when I reboot the router that it needs a new IP in the NF?
I need a better router or a newer one I am pretty sure.?
I would like to have one loaded with DDWRT if it will work for my application?
My network connection on my PC is set up as DNS I am pretty sure , it was hard to get the NFHD set up with the Nanos also. Took some thought and experts off the forum last year to get it working. Something about not being "static"?
What are the recomendations for getting the right router so I wont have a problem the next 10 years?
I appreciate any help,
Thanks

Really, no one can suggest a good router that can be easily set up with DDwrt?

Buffalo Networks products come with DD-WRT pre-installed. They do make some nice equipment.

I flashed a Linksys WRT54G that I bought at the flea market for$5 w / DD-WRT firmware

Works better than $100 Cisco my neighbor has.

I have a new Linksys WRT54GS V6 that I found on my shelf , its never been used still in the box but after reading about flashing the V6 , I think it may not work?
Probably iin the hands of someone that knows how to do it?
not me.
Maybe I could hire someone to set it up?
Thanks!

The site says you can flash it:

Manufacturer Model Revision Supported
Linksys WRT54GS v6.0 yes

Micro Generic dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin 2009-10-10 1,68 MB is recommend

Make sure your read everything on the site and understand what you are doing before you attempt the flash

Once you learn to do the 30/30/30/reset, It's just a matter of flashing the micro-generic bin from your PC to the router.

The X-works killer bin is obsolete now and does confuse many.

I had to talk to support there before I started flashing routers w / dd-wrt.It is a lot easier than it reads out as.

Once you use DD-WRT you won't want anything else.

I have 2 linksys routers that i use one i use as a repeater off the other one. What i really like about ddwrt is you can make the signal stronger and also use repeater mode with another router.

Once you find out which router and flash to use i recommend printing off the instructions, and just follow them step by step. When they say wait 5 minutes, i instead grabbed a beer and went for a 5 minute walk and came back.

Just follow the instructions on the site and you should be gtg.
