Converting a CAT5 straight cable to a Crossover cable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is for those mainly using dialup connections where you may need to use a crossover cable in place of the standard straight Cat5 cables sold in most stores...You can take a standard cat5 and cross the wires on one end to convert it to a crossover..

Category 5 and 5e cables consist of 4 pairs of wires in 4 color groups, Blue, Orange, Green and Brown. Each color group has 2 wires twisted together, with one of the two wires having the predominant color of the group and the other the group color with white stripes.

Things You'll Need:
•Cat 5 cable
•Cat 5 8 conductor plugs
•Cat 5 Crimper
•scissors

Instructions:
1.Start by stripping the plastic cover from the wire about 1 to 1.5 inches back.

2.Untwist all the pairs

3.arrange according to the wiring diagrams (568a or 568b)

568b 1)orange/white 2)orange 3)green/white 4)blue 5)blue/white 6)green 7)brown/white 8)brown

568a 1)green/white 2)green 3)orange/white 4)blue 5)blue/white 6)orange 7)brown/white 8)brown

4.for a cross-over wire one side 568a and the other side 568b

5.Now that you have the wiring diagram down and all your wire arranged, straight and flat, use a pair of scissors and cut at a PERFECT 90deg accross (if you don't cut at 90deg your wires will not make contact to the pins on the plug)

*cut wires back 1/2 inch from cable jacket

6.crimp making sure you squeeze the crimpers fully to make a good and secure connection

7.Repeat the process on the other end
**Remember you are making a cross over cable so make one side 568b and the other side 568a
