i want to set up a portable system using the new tailgater antenna from D*** for 110-119-129 using their required unit with a pay as you go sub i want to split the line coming in to use my fta unit and my thoughts are like this use the sub unit as a master and shut of the lnb power on the fta unit and use it as a slave only my question is would a DPP power separater switch work for this project i want a switch that connects two receivers to one line that will pass dc voltage through going to the antenna and pass signal from the antenna to both receivers remember dc voltage only going through on one side

Wills not around much anymore, so maybe I can help you.
The Tailgater will only work with 1 receiver attached, (and only certain models) and is not compatible with any of the external Dish DPP switches, or any other type of switch, the use of one will confuse the subbed receiver, and it will not apply the correct Diseqc direction commands to the tailgater antenna.
Good idea though.

i realize what you are saying unit only works with a 211k which i have and that will control the bird and tp that i want to view so lets say i want to watch hbo on ch 300 i tune 211 unit to that tp and even though i have no sub for that channel by splitting the line from antenna and shuting of power to lnb on the fta unit now i have nothing confusing tailgater what i need to know is what splitter to use separate the two receivers

Well there are no signal splitters that will work on satellite equipment, so you will have to go with a Diseqc switch, it would have to be a 3x4 or a 4x4 switch like the DP34 (best bet if you want to test it) or DP44, (4 in 4 out, they don't make a 2 x 2) and it will have to be one compatible with dish equipment or the antenna will not even work.
The big problem is that the tailgater antenna only has the one output, it was never designed to work with anything other then the 211 receiver. (and a very few others from dish)
Here is something to try, but you have to be careful, find an A/B switch rated to 3 GHz, then use it to switch over to the FTA receiver, but since it has never been tested with an FTA receiver, I don't know if the FTA receiver will work with that type of antenna.

what about the small dish separater switch that dish uses to split the line from and antenna into two for a dual tunner receiver again use the sub receiver to feed the voltage to the lnb and select the correct tp and let the fta unit with no power going turned on for lnb receiving only signal what do you think terryl maybe this would work maybe a plain old radio shack spliter rated for 0 to 2400ghz might even do the job i want thank you for letting me pick your brain since i my age i have a lot of brain fade

The separator won't work with multiple receivers, it's only to be used with a dual tuner receiver.
A high frequency splitter with power pass on one port only MIGHT work. The FTA receiver would have to go on the DC block side. No guarantees that an FTA box can work with that antenna, as even the majority of DN receivers won't.

so as the weather cools down so i can play satellite i am going to try your two recommendations the A-B switch and the high freq spllitter thank you both for you ideas
