Sorry Cobra I disagree, the owners are making money hand over fist. Did anyone happen to see what the nose bleed season ticket buy in was at the new Giant Stadium (and for that matter the new Yankee Stadium) in the Meadow Lands? It was out of reach for most middle class fans. I know since I had season tickets for 25 years that my brother used. He asked if I would do the buy, which I would have done for him since he is the only one that uses them now, but when I seen the 60k price tag I had to decline. And again thats just the buy in not the price payed every game. So for me I would much rather see the players get a bigger piece of the pie. They are the ones putting their bodies on the line both during the games and long into the future after they have retired from the NFL. JMO

NP ol` buddy you don`t ever have to be sorry by disagreeing with me.....just never do it again!!! BWAHAHA. Just kidding bud.
Actually, we`re not far off on our thinking. The owners make a fortune and it should be shared by the players putting the fans in their seats etc etc...........but I`d suggest a restructuring of finances rather than see the owners pocket one extra dime. A comparative drop in players` salaries across the board could fund enough money for the NFL to take care of it`s past employees and their families much better than it does in the present. Studies, treatment and care of players that have had their carreers cut short by injury could be greatly improved. I`m sure there are many ways the monies could be spent wisely and prudently without affecting negatively the players of today. After all what`s the difference of $100 million and $50 million to a single person? I say use the other $50 million (in Brees case) for the betterment of the players past and present. Do it by contract negotiation so we`ll make sure the rightful donations are actually made to wherever the plan that is agreed upon. JMO

Totally agree with Cobra.... wayyy overpaid... when the parking and programs alone cost you $30 before you even get in..
its absurd.... heaven forbid you should buy a beer for $12...
And,,, I am tired of players that have retired complain about the illnesses they get after retirement... they KNOW what they
are getting into.. they have played since they were 8 or 9 years old.. they know the hazards of it...
I have a friend that climbs high power poles that put out thousands of volts of electricity... he restores power when it
goes off... he has gotten shocked hundreds of times... he laughs it off when we tell him some day he gonna get fried..
Says,,, hey,, i know what i got into... i know the risks... i just enjoy doing it....
believe me,,, the power company would laugh at him if he tried to sue them cuz he had brain damage from all the shocks.
We make our lives fellow.... we gotta accept the consequences.....
Bottom line.... everyone wants free money!!! These old ball players are mostly broke...
And,,, Brees is NOT worth that kind of money.. noone is.

Brees is worth every penny and then some. The dude is an outright Rock Star in New Orleans http://www.yoursmiles.org/csmile/wink/c05102.gif (http://www.yoursmiles.org/c-wink.php) and changed the AINTS to the SAINTS.http://www.yoursmiles.org/tsmile/rulez/t2003.gif (http://www.yoursmiles.org/t-rulez.php)

Brees in my book is very close if not the best QB in the NFL......like you said he put the Saints on his back and made them believers and he`s the face of the New Orleans Saints. No one would deny that Brees is deserved to be at the top of any scale of pay...my problem as I mentioned is not with Brees but rather the scale itself being set at these ridiculous numbers while much of America goes underfed and under employed.

Sorry Sir, I forgot my place. It will never happen again. NOT!!! :D
Now that Cobra, I can totally agree with. It’s a disgrace how the NFL has left past players to fend for them selves after they have either been hurt out right or from the years of a career taking hits. Not to mention the sham studies and cover up of players long term and/or the cumulative effects/injuries from the game it has already been a part of to date. It’s only right that the owners take care of the players that have made them so much money. I am not sure but I would guess players don’t get workers compensation. If this is the case then the owners are saving boatloads of money not paying WC premiums. That money alone should be going to past players medical bills. They should be obligated to pay just as any other employer. Further many key players are insured by the franchise in case of loss of playtime in the event of an injury, but only to benefit the franchise not the player.
Also it would be nice to see the seating prices the way they were in the distant past. Where low cost seats available to the less affluent. Granted the seats were far for great but it did give more people a chance to taste the flavor of actually being in the stands during a game. It engendered good will and built the fan base. Granted the owners are entitled to make money but they need to remember that it’s the players and the fans that make it for them. JMO

@ TLG Most players come nowhere close to that. Many, especially rookies and junior players, make nowhere near the top range. Besides that you wouldn’t go to work for a company that didn’t pay for medical bills incurred by work place injuries. Would you? In fact by law, in every state in the US, Workers Compensation is mandatory. If income and/or work incurred medical bills are not paid the employee can sue and receive actual and punitive damages. And as I said before the owners are making money hand over fist off the players blood sweat and tears. And it’s the players who are taking the risk. Their not “spoiled grown up babys who bite the hand that fed them”, they are workers who have done their jobs and helped to make the “company” money and are legally entitled to workers comp regardless of how much they have been compensated.
I hear you NP ,, and as I read your reply I get the feeling of your passion for workers comp. and you are right !
in fact you would make a great "union head"
what I am saying is that ,, sports and athletes are unlike "workers" they belong to a different catagory of money
earners. much like or similar to artists.
much like, it is un-reasonable for a record label to insure Justin Bieber's voice, or Lady GaGa's stage performances
these artists are responsible for their tools, performances, safety, etc. (their voice is their tool)
athletes, through their "outrages" salaries, need to do the same ,, they have to make necassary, through whatever
process, that their health and head safety is at optimal health for the performance of their job. (their head is their tool)
the difference between "workers" and athletes is salary ... therefore .. it would be un-reasonable for an employer to expect
that a worker through his $40,000 per year salary,, insure himself ,, as clearly the money isn't there for such a purchase.
athletes should invest in themeselves ,, they make far too much money as it is ,, Workers Comp would only serve to
raise the price of admission for "workers" ,,, further "ripping off" regular folk !
while they look on and ride off in their ferrari's to their caviar and champagne dinner date with Victoria Secret super models !
sorry dude .. like i said before ... no simpathy from me ...

Wow, ok. Not quite a union head, more like a historian that knows that before workers comp employers had no regard for player, opps I mean workers safety. You know much like the NFL. And when a worker got hurt they were left with devastated lives with no hope for recourse since they usually couldn’t afford legal help.
As far as sports and athletes being unlike “workers” and belonging to a different category of money earners such as artists I have to disagree with you yet again. An artist who is an independent contractor or free lancer is not entitled to have the Firm that they do work for pay for any injuries sustained in doing their work. But take that same artist, say a graphic artist, and have them go to work for a non union advertisement company or a TV Network then they are entitled to coverage under state laws regarding workers comp as any other employee of any other company. Most “performers” are independent contractors and hence are not entitled to WC. The NFL players on the other hand meet the IRS litmus test for employees. They are told when and were to report for work, how long they must work for, what job (position) they are to carry out and make money for a third party. So they are entitled to their Constructional right to equal protection under the law. And that’s why many are seeking to litigate for payment for they’re past injuries.
As far as salaries are concerned, do you mean to tell me that because the CEO, CFO, Chairman of the Board, Sports Athlete, college professors or presidents, high ranking non elected government official or anyone else who is smart or talented enough to make a great income is not entitled to the same legal protections as any other “worker” is? So because the NFL player makes a hundred times, a thousand times more then you or I he is less entitled to have comp payments then we are? Where shall we draw the line, 50K, 100K, a million, 5 million……? I say one dollar. Every “worker”, and dare I say person is entitled to the same protections no matter how much or how little they earn. We don’t need class warfare. It only divides us as a people and the ones in high places spouting it are the only winners.
Last I looked no one is forced to “invest in themselves” except for Social Security and Medicare and disability in many states. Oh, and of course forced union dues and retirement “contributions”. And the players are doing what is legally required of them. I do agree with you that ticket prices would more then likely go up if the NFL owners were forced to pay for WC. And in fact they probably would end up being self-insurers. And that would be a real bummer. But when the NFL doesn’t’ take care of the long term and chronic injuries of the players that made them so much money then society as a whole has to though Social Security disability, Medicaid and Medicare. Why on earth would we want the owners skirting their responsibilities and throwing it on everyone else back?
I won’t even touch “ Ferrari’s to their caviar and champagne dinner dates with Victoria Secret super models!” but to say lucky bustards were do I sign up. Lol Seriously I am not asking you or anyone else to have sympathy for them, only grant them the same rights, privileges and protections as one would want for themselves or a loved one. And not to get sucked into this class warfare rhetoric that’s again sweeping the North American Continent.
Well I am not sure if you would agree with what I have wrote or not. So its probably best for us to agree to disagree. And that’s another thing that makes not only Satfix but also our countries great. Cheers my friend. I count myself very lucky to know you and your opinion. :cheers2:

Brees is one of the top quarterbacks in the league now. The amount per year is about the normal for someone of his caliber. I still think professional athletes make too much per year, but that is just my opinion.
