LONG POND, Pa. - The NASCAR media took a hit from both Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart this past week, but on Friday four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon stood up for the reporter caught in the crossfire.
Busch was suspended for this weekend's race at Pocono Raceway after making threatening comments to Sporting News reporter Bob Pockrass following last weekend's Nationwide Series race at Dover, Del.
Pockrass asked Busch a question about a run-in with another driver while he is on NASCAR probation. Busch's response: “It refrains me from not beating the (expletive) out of you right now because you ask me stupid questions.”
On his Sirius Satellite Radio show Tuesday night, Stewart said he agreed with Busch and “liked his answer.”
Gordon said Busch's comments were “out of line.”
“You would think (Busch) would have gotten enough wake up calls, but certain things continue,” Gordon said. “I really support Bob Pockrass in this situation. I don't think Bob asked anything out of line.
“The job of the media is to create entertainment for people to watch and read. We as competitors have to understand that side of it.
“If you don't like his question, don't answer it.”
Busch comes off suspension on Wednesday. He has a meeting planned with team owner James Finch on Tuesday.
