Didn't like it..a little heavy and where few things it could not do .ZoneAlarm still the best ..once it is set up ..With today's programs ..all ways like to see who is calling home and tiring to connect .

the free avast stuff was running pretty bad on my PC before, lots of invasive virus was getting in... when i bought a new pc, i knew i needed something better and not really a freeware.
i was told that it avast was only really a virus protection app and that we do need more.. like malware, firewall, etc.
thus i got a cracked version of kaspersky and started with them all the way.

the internet security generally is kinda a all-in-one where it provides all kinds of protection.

YES,

I heard good things about Microsoft Security essentials, but I a little afraid to use it myself, considering that my Win7 copy is bootlegged. (not Genuine)

Ya, I'm still mad at Microsoft...

Win 7 is a lot more thanan upgrade of Vista. Win 7 is also stable and damn near impossible to make it crash but it can be done hehehe

Win 8 is just around the corner and since every other version of Winblows sucks my guess is Win 8 will be a real dog. It also needs a facelift because it is far from pretty on the version I have

Thank you all for the info, lets not battle about wish windows is better then the other versions, at the end it is still a windows, lol. Some like W Me, windows 98, and so on, I personally like XP, in this modern time an anti virus is not enough now we need internet security and other stuff I have being reading. How complicated this is getting to me lol, for my daughter is a piece of cake.

Win 8 will be a total mess for many. Those that are avoiding 7 due to the changes in the desktop will hate 8 as it is tablet oriented. Not designed for power users. A week ago I read an article about Microsoft even admitting it was not going to be a great business sell.

One review from a power user states that it is a dog when it comes to his usage. A simple task can take up to 8 clicks more than with Win 7. Only two windows open at any one time. I am curiuos how it will work with dual screen.

You mentioned you use spybot may I add when using spybot on windows 7 you MUST run it in admin mode,,Right click it after install and its like the 4th down the list,"run as admin".

Well I disabled the "run as admin" option so I didn't need to do that.It was a pain always asking me to run as admin so now I just click and it runs. Thanks for that info though.Much appreciated.

Search the net but Microsoft Security Essentials has lost it's AV-TEST certification for not detecting Zero-day and other known exploits.

Microsoft Security Essentials loses certification

Microsoft Security Essentials, Redmond’s free antivirus tool for home users and business with up to ten PCs, can detect just 64 per cent of zero-day threats when running under Windows 7.

That low detection rate has cost it the AV-TEST Institute’s seal of approval, a certification it hands out to products that meet 11 of 18 criteria it assess. Those criteria consider how effective software is at detecting and blocking threats, repair of infected systems and overall usability including “average slowing down of the computer when the software is used on a daily basis, false positives during a system scan and the display of false warnings or the blocking of certain actions during the installation and during the use of known good software.”

Just to show that you have to keep you eyes open.

ok seems like a lot has changed since I last mouthed off in this thread so here goes. hehehe

Microsoft Essentials? Anybody really expect anything with the MS brand to work well? LOL

Kazpersky Security Suite is one of the better current programs. Two that I have seen that are really better than it are is Webroot Security and also Bitdefender Suite. These are both fast scanning and Bitdefender runs in the clouds, not sure about Webroot on that. I am currently using a legit copy of Bitdefender Suite. Cost me $90 but I think it is well worth it for total security on 3 systems for 2 years.

I do have a problem with pirated antivirus programs however. Here you have an individual using a computer for maybe online banking and shopping. A lot of personal info on a computer supposedly protected by an antivirus that has been compromised. A person really has no way of knowing just how compromised. Also they quite often disable themselves when they phone home to do a virus pattern update. If it is about computer security any free one downloaded directly from the company website is probably better thana top notch one that is pirated.
