Plastic Bottles

This is an e-mail I received from a friend. Thought I should pass it on. Might help someone.

Folks: This has come to me through my son, who got it from the fire chief of Minto. You will see at the bottom that it originated at WHSS in Mount Forest. I have done my sleuth work to see if it is a hoax. It is NOT! It is very true, sadly!! Thus, beware. Kathy

Something to seriously consider, especially now, while we're out there
cleaning up our yards!!!! Incidents have occurred in Teeswater and South
Grey/Bruce

FRIGHTENING!

Kids and others are putting Drano, tin foil and a little water in plastic
drink bottles and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in
gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to
put it in the rubbish, but you'll never make it!!!

If the bottle is picked up and the bottle is shaken even just a little
- in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes
with enough force to remove some of your extremities. The liquid that comes
out is boiling hot as well.

Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the
gutter, etc.

Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano.
A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it and BOOM!!!
No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also
informed.

Just how do you pack it with said ingredients then move it to another location without disturbing it?

Analysis: Homemade "bottle bombs" have been around for at least two decades, though they've been known by a variety of different names, including "acid bombs," "Drano bombs,"...

remember doing this as a kid.. i would thing it would explode even without shaking, just would take longer for the chemical reaction.

What a friend of mines son was taught last week in science class at his school (grade4)
Put some vinegar in a plastic drink bottle and wrap some baking soda in a small amount of paper towel and quickly insert the paper towel into the bottle and put the cap on just as quick..
Shake the bottle then throw it up in the air and let it land on hard pack(concrete/pavement,etc)..
The bottle EXPLODES on impact ..
Just my thoughts but that teacher should NOT be teaching kids this in a school environment.
They can see enough of that sheet on the internet..
