I find the stinkier the bait, the bigger the cat fish, so what to do is take the fresh chicken liver and put it between your toes, then during that long hike to the lake the bait will stink up a bit, but you should put some plastic bags over your feet, or you will stink up your boots.

Channel Cats like a “stink bait”. We use chicken livers wrapped and tied in a piece of nylon mesh, aged for a few days (mason jar in the sun).
These are pre-hooked so all we need to do is clip them to the leader.

Flat Head catfish prefer live bait, we use 8-10 inch bullheads, or 4-5 inch bluegills.
Mud Puppies & larger frogs also work well.
